WHAT TO DO NOW

  1. 1. STOP DRINKING

    Stop drinking from the glass and do not taste it again.

  2. 2. TELL SOMEONE

    Tell a trusted friend, member of staff or venue security immediately.

  3. 3. DO NOT LEAVE ALONE

    Stay with someone you trust. Do not go home or leave the venue alone.

  4. 4. GET MEDICAL HELP

    Call 113 if symptoms are serious, the person is unconscious, difficult to wake, having trouble breathing or otherwise in immediate danger.

  5. 5. KEEP POSSIBLE EVIDENCE

    If it is safe, ask staff to preserve the drink, glass or container. Note the approximate time and place.

IF AN ASSAULT MAY HAVE HAPPENED

If you think a sexual assault may have happened, contact an assault centre or the police for help and guidance. You can contact an assault centre even if you do not remember exactly what happened, and receiving medical help does not require you to report the incident to the police.

If possible, avoid showering or changing clothes before receiving advice, and keep relevant clothing, messages and other possible evidence.

  • Take the person seriously and listen calmly.
  • Stay with them and move to a safe, visible place.
  • Do not dismiss unusual behaviour as ordinary intoxication.
  • Call 113 if they are seriously unwell, unconscious, difficult to wake or having trouble breathing.
  • Alert the responsible venue manager or security team.
  • If safe, preserve the drink, glass or container.
  • Record the approximate time, location, symptoms and names of witnesses.
  • Preserve relevant CCTV in accordance with applicable procedures and privacy requirements.
  • Do not confront a suspected person yourself. Contact security or police.
